Consult Dr. Ash
TL;DR30-second take

The chat on our public website is an AI assistant, a computer program our practice configured. It is not Dr. Ash, it is not a doctor or a nurse, and it holds no medical license. Its job is to share how the practice works, drawing on our published guides, and to help you schedule a free 20-minute call with Dr. Ash, which is where the human conversation happens. Nothing the assistant says is medical advice. In an emergency, call 911. In a mental health crisis, call or text 988.

You deserve to know who, or what, you are talking to, and that matters most when the topic is your health. This page explains the chat bubble on our website in plain terms: what it is, what it can and cannot do, and where the human conversation happens.

Is the chat a doctor?

No. The website chat is an AI assistant, a computer program (it runs on a service called Fin). It is not me, it is not a doctor or a nurse, and it holds no medical license of any kind.

Because it is software, it cannot diagnose you, prescribe anything, order tests, or give you medical advice. Nothing it says is medical guidance, and it does not speak for me. If the assistant ever seems to claim it is a person, a clinician, or licensed, that is an error on our side - please tell us, and we will fix it.

What can the assistant help with?

The assistant knows how the practice works because it reads what we publish: how membership works, pricing, scheduling, which neighborhoods we serve, what to expect from a first call. It answers those questions the moment you ask them, at any hour, and it can point you to the guide that goes deeper.

Think of it as a well-read front desk. The information side is automated. The medicine never is.

How do I talk to a person?

Schedule the free 20-minute call with Dr. Ash - the chat and every page on this site can point you to the intake that sets it up. That call is a human conversation, no charge, and it is where questions about your health belong, because I can hear your whole story and answer as your potential physician, not as a chat window.

If you are already a patient, the chat is not your door at all: text or call the practice line, or message through your patient portal, and you reach our clinical team directly.

What happens to what I type?

The chat runs on an outside vendor's systems and is not part of your medical record, so treat it like a lobby, not an exam room: fine for questions about how we work, wrong for medical detail. Anything you want me to know about your health belongs in your intake, where it starts your chart the right way. Each week we also review what people asked, with names and details removed, and those questions shape what we publish next. Our privacy notice covers the chat in more depth.

When should I skip the chat?

  • If this could be an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department now. Chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of stroke, heavy bleeding, a seizure - the chat is the wrong tool, and minutes matter. Our emergency care guide explains where to go for what.
  • If you are in a mental health crisis, or having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) any hour, any day. A trained human will answer.
  • If you are a member with an urgent same-day concern, text or call the practice line, which reaches our clinical team directly.

Why use an AI assistant at all?

It answers the 2am "do you take my insurance" question the moment you ask it, so you are never waiting on office hours to learn how we work. And it keeps the human time where it belongs: on your call, with your story, off the clock. The assistant handles the information desk. Decisions about your body stay with a physician - that is a line we hold on purpose, and Pennsylvania law holds it too.
